Overview

REACTO IFAS is an advanced hybrid biological treatment system designed to achieve superior removal efficiencies within compact reactor volumes. By integrating high-surface-area fixed biofilm carriers into a conventional activated sludge environment, the system significantly enhances biomass retention and process resilience under high organic and hydraulic loads. This dual-growth mechanism allows IFAS to handle variable influent characteristics while delivering consistent compliance with stringent discharge and reuse standards. The technology is particularly suited for industrial effluents, space-restricted installations, and retrofitting existing STPs where performance enhancement and nutrient removal are critical.

The technology is engineered for demanding applications such as industrial wastewater, high-density residential projects, and retrofitting of overloaded or underperforming treatment plants. IFAS enables substantial capacity enhancement without requiring major civil expansion, making it highly suitable for space-constrained upgrades. Its robust microbial ecosystem ensures stable performance, improved shock-load tolerance, and consistent compliance with stringent discharge and reuse standards, positioning REACTO IFAS as a high-efficiency solution for modern wastewater challenges.

Technology Principle

Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge
High surface area bio-carriers
Simultaneous carbon and nutrient removal
Enhanced microbial retention time

Process Description

The system integrates bio-carriers within the aeration tank, allowing microorganisms to grow both freely suspended and attached to media, increasing biomass concentration and treatment capacity.

Step 1

Equalization

Influent is stabilized to reduce hydraulic and organic fluctuations.

Step 2

Aeration with Bio-Carriers

Wastewater enters an aeration tank containing suspended bio-media. Microorganisms grow both freely and attached to carriers, greatly increasing activate biomass.

Step 3

Biological Oxidation & Nitrification

Organic matter is rapidly degraded while ammonia is converted to nitrate within attached biofilms.

Step 4

Denitrification (Anoxic Zones)

Controlled cycling allows conversion of nitrate to nitrogen gas for effective nutrient removal.

Step 5

Secondary Clarification

Biomass settled and partially recycled to maintain microbial concentration.

Step 6

Tertiary Polishing & Disinfection

Final filtration and disinfection produce reuse-grade treated water.
