Overview

REACTO BioMimicry is a sustainable and ecologically integrated sewage treatment solution engineered to replicate the purification mechanisms of natural wetlands. The system leverages the synergistic interaction between plant root systems, naturally occurring microbial communities, and engineered filtration substrates to biologically treat domestic wastewater in a passive and energy-efficient manner. Unlike conventional STPs that rely heavily on mechanical aeration and complex electromechanical components, BioMimicry operates primarily through gravity-driven flow and natural oxygen transfer within the rhizosphere.

This technology is specifically designed for projects where environmental sensitivity, low operational dependency, and aesthetic landscape integration are key priorities. The planted treatment beds not only serve as biological reactors but also enhance the visual and ecological value of the site, making the system ideal for eco-developments, resorts, educational campuses, parks, and decentralized communities. With minimal moving parts and low maintenance requirements, REACTO BioMimicry offers a long-term, stable, and environmentally responsible approach to wastewater management while consistently meeting discharge norms.

Technology Principle

The system operates on a combination of:

Root Zone Treatment (RZT)
Phytoremediation and rhizosphere microbial action
Aerobic-anoxic microenvironments within media layers
Natural adsorption and filtration through graded substrates
Gravity-driven hydraulic flow

Process Description

The system mimics natural filtration and biological processes using Cena plants, microbial activity, and engineered media layers to treat sewage with minimal mechanical intervention.

Step 1

Primary Settling

Raw sewage first enters a settling chamber where heavier suspended solids are removed through gravity separation, reducing load on downstream biological zones.

Step 2

Distribution System

Pre-settled wastewater is evenly distributed across planted media beds through perforated piping to ensure uniform hydraulic loading.

Step 3

Planted Bio-Media Zone

Wastewater flows vertically and horizontally through layers of gravel, sand, and engineered porous media planted with Cena-based wetland vegetation.

Within this zone:

  • Plant roots release oxygen into the rhizosphere
  • Biofilms develop on media surfaces
  • Organic matter is biologically degraded
  • Nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus are absorbed and stabilized
Step 4

Natural Filtration & Polishing

Successive substrate layers physically trap fine particles while microbial populations further oxidize residual organics.

Step 5

Treated Water Collection

The clarified effluent is collected through underdrain systems and can be reused for gardening, landscaping, or safely discharged.
